A run-down building for one euro
At the end of 2023, we got the chance to buy a run-down little building in the Tuikwerderrakbos woods in Delfzijl. For a symbolic euro. The scouts used it once, but that was some fifteen years ago.
In 2024, we asked young people from the area what it should become. The answer: a creative hub, mostly for music. A few brainstorms later, the building had a name too.
A group of young people has already cleared out the building safely. Now we're writing the plans and bringing in funding and grants. Then the real building work starts.

Building it together
Young people and young adults from the area are doing up the Bunker themselves. They decide what it'll look like and pick up the tools themselves. We only bring in professionals for the most specialist jobs. That way you learn by doing, and the place really becomes yours.
Right now, we're working on the plans and the money.

Handing over the key
Once the building work is done, the Cultuur Bunker opens. The key goes to a young board. From then on, young people decide what happens in the Bunker and who gets to use it.

We raised our first money ourselves
In early 2025, Gronings Vuur put on ten shows in Appingedam. Young people from the Cultuur Bunker ran the bar and the catering. Everything they raised went to the Bunker.
This isn't a one-day paint job
The Cultuur Bunker is a long-term project. From the first plans to the opening, you're looking at about two years. We're looking for people who want to see the whole thing through.
