Jong Noord isn't an ANBI yet. We're working towards it.

ANBI

ANBI stands for Algemeen Nut Beogende Instelling, a public benefit organisation recognised by the Dutch Tax Administration. Jong Noord wants this status. It makes giving to our work with young people more attractive, and it shows that we handle money with care. On this page you can read what that means for you.

What is an ANBI?

An ANBI is an organisation that works for the public good and doesn't aim to make a profit. Think of a charity or a foundation like Jong Noord. The Dutch Tax Administration (Belastingdienst) decides who gets this status. Every ANBI is listed in a public register kept by the Belastingdienst.

Why we want this status

Everything Jong Noord does is for and with young people up to 30 in our region. With ANBI status, you can deduct your gift to us from your taxes. We also don't pay gift tax on donations, so more is left for our work. And the status shows that the Belastingdienst has looked at how we work.

What's in it for you?

Once Jong Noord has ANBI status, these benefits apply.

Your gift is tax deductible

If you give to an ANBI as an individual, you can deduct the gift from your Dutch income tax. Ordinary gifts have a threshold and a maximum. For the details, see the Belastingdienst website (opens in a new tab).

A fixed gift for five years

If you agree to give us the same amount every year for at least five years, that's called a periodic gift. You can deduct it without a threshold. You record the agreement in a contract with us or with a notary.

For businesses too

A Dutch BV or NV can deduct a gift to an ANBI from its profit for corporate income tax. If your business wants to support or sponsor us, get in touch. We'd be glad to work out together what suits you best.

Until we have ANBI status, gifts to Jong Noord aren't tax deductible yet. Your support is welcome now. You can read how at the bottom of this page.

What does the Belastingdienst ask?

An organisation only gets ANBI status if it meets every requirement. In short:

  • At least 90 per cent of what we do is for the public good.
  • We don't aim to make a profit.
  • Whoever sets the policy, such as the Supervisory Board, doesn't get a salary. At most they get their expenses back or a small fee for meetings.
  • Nobody can use the foundation's money as if it were their own.
  • We don't hold more money than we need for our work.
  • We have an up to date policy plan and keep good accounts. Costs and spending are in proportion.
  • The foundation and the people who run it act with integrity.
  • If the foundation ever closes, whatever is left goes to another ANBI or a similar good cause.
  • Every year we publish our details online, with a report on what we did and how we spent the money.

The Belastingdienst assesses a complete application within eight weeks. All requirements are on the Belastingdienst website (opens in a new tab).
